BASIC CONCEPTS In pneumatics, the valve is the device that intercepts and distributes compressed air or regulates its flow. They can be grouped into three families: - interception valves: block or change the direction of the compressed air based on needs (e.g. see OR or AND logic elements). - Regulation valves: they vary the flow of compressed air based on needs by regulating pressure and/or flow. (e.g. See flow regulators). - Distribution valves: divert the flow of compressed air without varying pressure or flow. Distribution valves are made up of two parts: the air distribution operation (the valve body), and the control valve (the operator) that activates the first and acts as a transmission between the user and the controlled pneumatic device (a cylinder for example). THE OPERATORS These are the control parts of the valves and can be actuation (valve switching) or repositioning (returning the valve to the resting position). If the signal with which the operator is piloted is manual or mechanical, we are talking about a valve, if it is electric, a solenoid valve. Mechanical/manual operators Consisting of levers, rollers, pushbuttons, pedals, etc., they act directly on the internal air distribution system (sliding). Pneumatic operators Used when it is not possible to directly control the valve; They consist of a piston that, remotely operated by a pneumatic impulse, displaces the internal air distribution system (slide). Electro-pneumatic operators These are operators who receive an electrical signal and transform it into a pneumatic control signal.
